yorktown rotary club
With over 34,000 clubs worldwide, Rotary International is an incredible service organization that provides humanitarian projects to improve communities at home and abroad. Yorktown Rotary is behind so many events you might have already heard of on the Peninsula, like the Freedom Run in Yorktown on Memorial Day and their yearly disabled Veterans fishing trip! In addition to all that, they also have an awesome community project building right now at Yorktown Beach! Check out their website to see all their projects and volunteer opportunities.
This organization is the lifeline for many small nonprofits that don’t have large fundraising staff or administrative manpower. The facilitator between those who want to give and those who need. THE Nonprofit of ALL nonprofits. United Way of the Virginia Peninsula is all those things and more. Their mission is “to improve the quality of life for people in our community by helping them live their best possible lives”. They do this by “finding new SOLUTIONS to old problems… by forging unlikely PARTNERSHIPS… by mobilizing the best RESOURCES…by INSPIRING individuals to join the fight… by LIVING UNITED!
We hear time and time again that children are the future, but what’s always forgotten is that children are also the now. Day 30 of our non profit series highlights @Alternatives, Inc., an organization that is dedicated to exploring the ideas and creativity children exhibit today while giving them the education and programs to lead others tomorrow. In addition to the programs they facilitate for children after school and in community centers, Alternatives also provides learning opportunities for teachers and professionals who work with children to improve themselves professionally in every spectrum.
H.E.L.P. Inc. which stands for Hampton Roads Ecumenical Lodging and Provisions, takes the worry of survival off of the minds of people in the city of Hampton so that they can focus on getting back on their feet and moving themselves and their families into a better life. The medical and dental program is one of the only programs in our area and they need volunteers! If you are a Doctor or a Dentist or Dental Hygienist in our area they NEED YOUR HELP! A few hours of your time a month can mean many more people can be served!
